Q. Does Flexicose have any side effects?

Flexicose is very well tolerated by almost everybody. One should not take Flexicose if you are allergic to shellfish, pregnant or nursing. Diabetics should consult with their doctors prior to beginning Flexicose, but recent research indicates that glucosamine causes virtually no change in insulin levels at labeled doses because it cannot be converted to glucose. Again, consult your doctor. Glucosamine is considered generally very safe and there have been no reported major side effects.

Q. What is in a serving of Flexicose?

Flexicose contains just 10 calories per serving. Each serving provides 1,500 mg of Glucosamine Sulfate and HCL, 120 mg of Chondroitin Sulfate, and 1,600 mg of our proprietary Flexibility Complex that contains MSM, Omega 3 Fatty Acids, Aloe Vera, Boswellia Serrata (Boswellin), Niacinamide, Bromelaine and Yucca. The Glucosamine in Flexicose is technically a form of an amino sugar that plays a major role in cartilage formation. Glucosamine stimulates the production of water-binding glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans, two essential building blocks of cartilage and also inhibits the production of chondrocytes, enzymes that break down cartilage. Glucosamine also appears to suppress the destructive enzymes collagenase and phospholipase. In effect, supplementing with glucosamine is akin to giving your body the raw materials it needs to promote healthy cartilage - but naturally. Glucosamine helps to form tendons, ligaments, cartilage and nails. Glucosamine has so few side effects primarily because it is already a natural component of the body. The only problem with glucosamine is that its natural production in the body seems to fade with time, injury and aging. Q. What does Chondroitin do?

Chondroitin Sulfate is a component of cartilage. In molecular terms, it is a gigantic molecule, mainly composed of repeated chains of glucosamine sulfate. Because of this, it functions in a way that is similar to glucosamine. Many of the clinical studies with chondroitin utilized injected forms of chondroitin, something we imagine you would prefer to avoid on a daily basis. Fortunately, because Flexicose is a liquid, our chondroitin sulfate boasts a higher bio availability than mere solid tablets or capsules. Remember those low absorption rates with pills? Q. What does MSM do?

MSM, also known as methylsulfonylmethane, is a major supplier of sulfur, the fourth most abundant mineral in the body. It is related to another sulfur compound, DMSO. In animal studies, joints affected by pain have lower sulfur content. Mice with joint pain, when given MSM, experience less joint deterioration. The results of a preliminary double-blind trial stated that patients with joint pain found that MSM reduced discomfort after six weeks. MSM is generally regarded as an additional "helper" against joint discomfort, but is best combined with other more powerful ingredients such as Glucosamine.

Manganese Ascorbate

Manganese is a mineral essential to the formation of connective tissue (such as cartilage). Therefore manganese is extremely helpful in combating joint discomfort, but there is also evidence that it promotes keeping bones strong and contributing towards the prevention of osteoporosis.

Aloe Vera (as a gel)

Animal studies show that drinking soothing aloe vera can reduce swelling and soreness in arthritic joints. It has been used since early recorded history for its first-aid like properties. Aloe Vera is one of the only known natural vegetarian sources of Vitamin B12, and it contains many minerals vital to the healthy function and growth process of all the body's systems.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Omega 3 Fatty Acids can not be talked about enough when it comes to helping out your entire body as well as dealing with joint discomfort. They help promote reduced soreness, increase blood flow, as well as promote the reduction of Coronary Heart Disease. Omega 3 (EPA and DHA) should be taken everyday even if one does not have joint discomfort. One should make note to avoid Omega 6, as the average diet is saturated with Omega 6 already. Omega 3 however is generally in short supply.

Boswellia Serrata (also known as Boswellin)

Boswellia, because it has been shown to help promote the easing of soreness, is effective for joint discomfort. Boswellia inhibits pro-inflammatory mediators in the body, such as leukotrienes. Research indicates that long-term use of Boswellia, as opposed to NSAIDs, does not appear to cause irritation or ulceration of the stomach.

Niacinamide

This particular form of vitamin B3 may enhance glucocorticoid secretion, a naturally produced anti-inflammatory adrenal hormone. In clinical trials, it has clearly been more effective than placebo and it has very promising effects for joints. William Kaufman, M.D. published detailed observations on many of his patients with joint discomfort who took niacinamide. He documented improvements in joint function, range of motion, increased muscle strength and endurance.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin needed for the repair and growth of tissues in all parts of the body. Vitamin C is essential for the repair and maintenance of cartilage and bones as well as healing of wounds. It is essential to form collagen, an important protein used to make tendons, cartilage, ligaments, skin, blood vessels, and scar tissue. It also acts as an antioxidant to offset the damage of free radicals.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A plays an important role in bone formation and may also help to reduce the symptoms of joint discomfort. It is also a potent antioxidant and is needed to promote healthy bone development. Low Vitamin A may lead to reduced bone mass and consequently osteoporosis.

Vitamin E

Another antioxidant, Vitamin E may be helpful in both the prevention of and the treatment of joint discomfort (discomfort relief and increased joint mobility). Vitamin E was tested against a NSAID (diclofenac) and was found to be equally as effective. Vitamin E also has many antioxidant properties.

Bromelaine

Bromelaine may be as effective as the NSAIDS, for pain reduction. Use over time may also help with connective tissue disorders. It also appears to have anti-inflammatory properties.

Yucca

There is evidence that Yucca can aid in joint discomfort relief. Yucca may work by blocking the release of intestinal toxins that inhibit normal formation of cartilage.

Q. What about pets? Will they like Flexicose? How do I give it to them?

Most pets will simply take Flexicose with their food. If you still have trouble giving your pet Flexicose, consider mixing their daily dose in a special treat. A little milk or cream may be all it takes. Most people report no problems simply mixing Flexicose with their pet’s food but some pets may require administration with a dropper.

Q. What are the differences between the three different kinds of Flexicose?

The ingredients in Flexicose, Flexicose for Pets and Flexicose for Athletes are all the exact same. We simply divide up the different categories for marketing purposes. Because Flexicose uses high quality ingredients, Flexicose for Pets is perfectly safe for a person to consume and vice versa although we do recommend a separate bottle for pets. For convenience, we do suggest obtaining a separate bottle for pets but that is not required. Every bottle of Flexicose contains high quality Liquid Glucosamine.

Q. Why liquid glucosamine over tablets or pills?

Absorption and Bio availability. Unlike pills that contain binders, fillers and chelating agents, Flexicose is a liquid which means you are getting maximum absorption and bio availability. Sure, you can buy the cheap “no name” Glucosamine Sulfate Salts that contain nothing else but they will probably do little to nothing for you or you can buy a high quality product like Flexicose that works. The choice is up to you. Plus, you do not have to take 4, 5 or 6 pills a day. You can simply drink your daily serving in the mornings, evenings or even with lunch. You don’t even need to space your doses out like some of the pills. One daily serving is just as effective.

Q. What does Flexicose taste like?

Flexicose has a Mixed Berry flavor. Many customers drink Flexicose directly but some choose to mix it with their favorite beverage. Q. Does the FDA approve Flexicose?

Flexicose is a dietary supplement and as such is not subject to "approval" by the FDA in the same way drugs are. There are dozens of double blind, placebo controlled clinical studies that show that glucosamine is safe and effective at reducing discomfort, soreness and improving flexibility.

Q. What is the Function of Cartilage in the Body and What Happens When it Breaks Down?Smooth and undamaged cartilage is critical for bones to operate properly. Cartilage is akin to the oil in your car. When cartilage breaks down or is damaged, your joints begin to slow down, friction increases and pain develops. Cartilage may break off, bone spurs may develop and the joint may become inflamed. This is very painful and can result in markedly decreased flexibility. In several different clinical studies, glucosamine has been shown to helps to repair damaged cartilage and increase flexibility. Flexicose is also effective as a preventative measure to help stave off future problems.

Q. What about Chondroitin? Does Flexicose have any Chondroitin?

Yes, Flexicose has 120 mg of chondroitin in every serving. Because Flexicose is a liquid and extremely well absorbed, 120 mg is just as effective as 1,200 mg. Remember, with capsules and pills you are going to get only 10% - 20% absorption. Chondroitin is such a large molecule that unless you inject it directly into the bloodstream, it will be absorbed at about a 5% rate no matter how else you take it. So with capsules, you only absorb 6 – 12 mg per dose (if you have 1,200 mg) but with the 120 mg of chondroitin in Flexicose, you get ten times that dosage of ACTIVE chondroitin that will be able to enter your blood stream.

Q. What type of pets will Flexicose work for?

Flexicose is effective for many different animals. Our customers have used Flexicose successfully for common animals like dogs, cats and horses as well as some more exotic pets. It is also effective for osteochondrosis, knee, elbow and hip dysplasia in pets.

Q. How long do I have to take Flexicose for? Can I reduce the dosage over time?

Like a cut, your body does not heal itself instantly. Flexicose can be taken at double the recommended dosage for the first two weeks to “jump start” cartilage repair and pain reduction and then for 4 – 6 months you should take it at the regular dose. After that, some – but not all - people find they are able to drop down to a maintenance dose of half of the labeled dose per day. If you are experiencing relief with your current dose then there is often little reason to cut back because the soothing ingredients in Flexicose are continually keeping your joints bathed in a protective fluid and working to prevent further damage to your joints. Because you are constantly using and wearing down your joints, it is recommended to prevent further deterioration that you continue taking Flexicose.

Q. Why is Glucosamine HCL (or Sulfate) in Flexicose?

We have added both Glucosamine Sulfate and HCL to our product because of the way that people respond to the two different forms of glucosamine. Rather than guess which form will work the best for you, we give you both. Remember, we use high quality glucosamine in our product and we NEVER use the salts (KCl or NaCl), which rob you of 30% of your actual active glucosamine per dose. You will find many different sites that claim that one form (and the form they are selling) is better, but the truth is it’s ultimately up to the person. More studies have been done on the sulfate form but that does not mean the HCL form is ineffective or that the sulfate is more effective. It simply depends on the person and there is no way to tell in advance.

Q. Can Flexicose cure my arthritis?

As you know, arthritis is a horrible condition but it unfortunately currently has no cure. There is no product out there that can cure your arthritis, and while Flexicose is able to help people significantly, it cannot cure your arthritis. That said, if you or your pets struggle with joint pain, Flexicose will still do wonders for you and help ease your pain without the harmful effects of NSAIDS.

Q. What dose should I take?

We recommend that both humans and pets double the daily dose (e.g. take ½ oz per day) for the first two weeks. (½ oz is the same as 1 tablespoon). After the first two weeks you should take the normal dose, (¼ oz) everyday. You can take Flexicose anytime of the day and you do not need to spread out the dose for Flexicose to be effective.
